Psalm 103:2–4 says, “Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion” (NIV).
There are a lot of benefits in this verse to be thankful for, that’s for sure! But to me, the fact that He forgives my sin is the greatest benefit of all. And it is only because of the precious blood of Jesus that I can proclaim that I am forgiven and cleansed from sin (Hebrews 9:22).
When I said yes to Jesus and repented of my sin, the blood of Jesus washed my sin away for good, never to be remembered again (Hebrews 8:12). Isn’t that amazing? In an instant, Jesus’s blood prepared me for heaven, just as it does anyone who calls on His name (Acts 2:21).
Did you know that as a believer, though, it is important to consistently (verbally) apply the blood of Jesus to your life, your family, and all that concerns you? This isn’t for salvation; rather, it’s for your daily victory over the effects of sin.
Several years ago, the Lord prompted me to study the many Scriptures that talk about the blood of Jesus. I also searched out books on the subject. And I discovered I had been overlooking the power of the shed blood of Jesus. Maybe you have too.
Below is a prayer that combines some of what the Holy Spirit taught me. Jesus’s blood forgives our sin, brings us into the family of God, creates within us a new spirit, and gives us the power to live victoriously here on earth.
You can pray this prayer daily, honoring God’s Word and releasing the power of His Son’s blood. Ask the Lord to teach you more about the power of Jesus’s blood as you search the Scriptures for yourself.
“Heavenly Father, as a child of God through faith in Your Son, Jesus, I claim and receive all the benefits of His blood for my family and me today. May the blood purify our hearts, preserve and protect our lives, prevail over evil, and release greater measures of Your powerful presence.
Thank You, Jesus, that Your blood purifies us and makes us new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Thank You that it purges us from every defilement of the enemy. It also preserves us by making us holy and keeping us blameless until the day You return (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
I am grateful that my family and I are overcomers and can claim surpassing victory in every situation by the blood of the Lamb (Romans 8:37). Your blood protects us from the enemy’s attacks and causes all negative situations and circumstances to work for our favor. We shall never be defeated! Nor will we be deceived. The blood of Jesus covers our minds with truth and exposes every lie of the enemy.
Father God, I declare that the blood of Jesus has set us free from the torments of the spirit of fear. May we refuse to succumb to the fear of man or negative situations any longer, for You do not give us a spirit of fear (2 Timothy 1:7). Help us to focus on Your love and Your promises for provision and protection.
May the blood of Jesus prevail over our lives, guarding us day and night. May we never forget that we overcome the devil “by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of [our] testimony” (Revelation 12:11). Help us to be bold in telling others what You have done for us.
I ask that the blood of Jesus release greater measures of Your presence in our lives. You invite us to approach Your throne of grace with confidence and find the help we need when we need it most (Hebrews 10:19).
Draw us daily to Your throne by releasing in us godly sorrow that births repentance (2 Corinthians 7:10). Create in us a clean heart (Psalm 51:10), and purify us from all sin (1 John 1:7). In Jesus’s name, amen.”
This is a power-packed prayer, backed by the Word of God. Because His promises never return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11), we can pray this prayer in faith daily. Let the blood of Jesus reconcile everything in you and your family to the perfect will of God.
